Why GiwaGrass

Our name tells about our story, it is our identity. It combines two words from different languages that intertwine.

Giwa is a Hausa word, one of the many languages spoken in Ghana. It is also the mother tongue of our co-founder. Grass is the English word which represents the natural element at the core of our brand.
GiwaGrass, or elephant grass, is the name of the plant traditionally used to create bags, baskets and so much more.
Do you want to know why is it called elephant grass?
The obvious answer is that elephants feed on this plant, and it is exactly so! Elephants enjoy this special grass that grows in sub-saharian Africa and is harvested to beautifully craft our incredible products.
